Abstract: |
A proposal by Oaktree Environmental Limited on behalf of their client St Lawrence Hall Farms Ltd to develop a field to the south of Hog Lane, Westhall, Suffolk, for the erection of an anaerobic digester plant and broiler unit, required an archaeological desk-based assessment as part of an archaeological evaluation prior to any construction works. This was to identify the extent of the archaeological resource of the site and to assess the likely impacts of the proposals on that resource and the environmental implications. The desk-based assessment has shown that the site has low potential for any archaeological remains to be present on the site. The lack of archaeological work in the area may have contributed to the paucity of evidence in the vicinity. The field under study was once five fields, and was made into one between 1966 and 1973, which is known from aerial photographs, making the most likely find on site to be obsolete field boundaries. |
