Abstract: |
March 2006. Oxford Archaeology carried out a field evaluation covering areas A28 to A31 of the West Coast Main Line upgrade project. The evaluation consisted of 19 trenches and revealed numerous geological variations, although evidence for archaeological features and deposits was negligible. The evaluation did reveal a post-medieval field boundary to the east of the railway, possibly associated with a plantation marked on the first edition OS map (1843-93) as 'Hademore Belt'. A second field boundary was identified to the west of the railway, and may also represent a boundary shown on the first edition OS map. |
