Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation and subsequent watching brief were undertaken on land at Abbey Farm, Lanercost, prior to the construction of a new French Drain and footpath along the northern edge of the farm range, and for various service cuts including sewage and rainwater within the farm complex itself, to prepare the buildings for redevelopment into commercial and residential structures. Observations within the farm courtyards suggested that the construction of the farm in the 19th century had removed any archaeological deposits, but to the immediate north of the farm complex the truncated remains of a 17th century building and a disturbed stone-lined grave were observed. |
