Abstract: |
The proposed development falls within a landscape of river valley and gentle slopes with both sand and clay soils which has high potential for archaeological occupation of all periods. This assessment has identified that a large number of archaeological sites are known to exist within the development area, and that this is not the result of systematic survey but largely of chance finds. The evidence indicates that there is high potential further new sites to be uncovered during this development. The construction of the reservoir is the most damaging proposal archaeologically and the size of the development (9ha) indicates a high likelihood that previously unidentified archaeological sites may be present within the area (the Suffolk SMR records an average of one archaeological site per 5ha across the county). |
