Abstract: |
In August 2010 Archaeological Solutions (AS) carried an archaeological evaluation at No. 117 Wilton Way, Hackney, London E8 1BH (NGR TQ 3487 8479). The evaluation was commissioned by Thornsett Group and was undertaken in compliance with a planning condition attached to planning permission for redeveloping the site for residential use. The site is situated within the historic core of Hackney, and it known to be the site of the site of the 17th century Spurstowe's Almshouses, rebuilt in the early 19th century. In the event the evaluation revealed brick wall foundations which are believed to belong to the almshouses and dating to the early 19th century. |
