Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during works associated with the construction of a new water supply pipeline at Langholm, Dumfries and Galloway (NGR: NY 3683 8478 to NY 2475 9238). The pipeline ran across an area of dense settlement remains ranging in date from prehistoric to modern. Four areas with a high potential for the survival of sub-surface remains were targeted by the watching brief - Bailiehill (NGR: NY 25776 90555), Black Esk Ridge (NGR: NY 25348 590718), Meikleholm Hill (NGR: NY 35200 84801) and land to the east of Langholm Castle (NGR: NY 36298 85106). The watching brief on these areas unearthed neither features nor artefacts of archaeological significance. |
