Abstract: |
ARS were appointed to undertake a strip, map and record exercise during the redevelopment of Hill Farm Quarry. The works form the final mitigation for the development of Mercia Marina (ref. 9/2007/0470/M). The proposal was for the redevelopment of an existing redundant quarry working in to a marina and leisure facility. It will include the construction of chalet buildings and associated infrastructure around the existing workings that are located to the north of Findern Road. A new link to the Trent and Mersey canal and borrow pit is to be excavated to the south of Findern Road. The excavation revealed multi-period prehistoric remains including Early Neolithic midden pits, Bronze Age settlement and funerary monuments, and later prehistoric linear features. |
