Abstract:
As part of its commitment to managing the historical and natural heritage resources in its care, Forestry Commission Scotland has undertaken a survey and assessment of Dalrulzion Forest. The 'Dalrulzion huts' form a scheduled part of this forest and, in order to contextualise the surrounding landscape of this important group of hut circles and in order to manage that wider landscape appropriately, a survey of the area was commissioned. A number of huts formerly considered to have been destroyed through forestry action were rediscovered intact along with a number of medieval/post-medieval buildings and associated structures. These finds along with the accompanying cartographic research has led to the possibility of making informed suggestions concerning a series of landscape development sequences for the immediate area.
