Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in May and June 2008 at the request of Drivers Jonas at Oldlands Farm, Bognor Regis, West Sussex. Thirty eight trenches were excavated. The evaluation identified archaeological deposits throughout the site, excluding the extreme south-east portion. Activity dating from the Middle Bronze Age to the Roman period was represented, with slight evidence of occupation throughout these periods. Funerary activity dating to the middle Bronze Age and Iron Age was represented by two cremations located within the southern portion of the site. Remnants of field systems dating to both the Roman and Bronze Age periods are represented. The evaluation has characterised the archaeological potential of the site, and has indicated that deposits representing activity dating from the Bronze Age to the Roman period survive at an average depth of between 0.8m and 1.0m bpgl. |
