Abstract:
Watching briefs were kept on 7 and 8 July 2010 at several points during the refurbishment of an 11kv overhead power line between Campbeltown and Machrihanish, Kintyre. Nine wooden poles were replaced, one new one added and three stays inserted, the trenches all measuring typically 2m by 0.6m and 1.8m deep. Replacement pole trenches were located at: NR 68005 18792; NR 67899 18834; NR 69016 18868; NR 66281 18466; NR 65723 19740; NR 64858 20461; NR 64606 20572; NR 63574 20545; and NR 62997 20224. A new pole trench was added at: NR 63620 20539. Stay trenches were located at: NR 68113 18755; NR 63570 20593 and NR 69014 18868. Nothing of archaeological significance was found in any of the trenches.
