Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological work including topographical survey and geophysical survey was carried out by ULAS in January 2003, prior to drain renewal at King's Norton, Leicestershire (SK 6883 0035). The work revealed surviving evidence for changing land use over time, including medieval settlement and post-medieval formal gardens. The latter was confirmed with reference to the 1847 Tithe Map. A subsequent watching brief (ULAS Report 2003-018) was undertaken during excavation of the access holes for the replacement of the existing rising water main. No archaeological deposits were revealed during this work, although the location of the holes largely avoided the main areas of archaeological activity. |
