Abstract: |
Albion Archaeology undertook an archaeological evaluation consisting of fieldwalking and trial trenching in August and September 2010. The fieldwalking recovered six further worked flint fragments dating from the Mesolithic to the early Neolithic period and two burnt flints. A concentration of post-medieval, most likely 18th-century, roof tile, brick fragments, pottery and slag was noted in the south-western part of the development area. Subsequent trial trenching did not reveal any below ground archaeological features, with the exception of two in situ burnt patches which were excavated and recorded in Trench 5. These may be the result of isolated bonfires or the burning of root bowls. |
