Abstract: |
Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman and early Anglo-Saxon remains were excavated and recorded during construction of the Ashby Folville to Thurcaston gas pipeline. These remains included two small pits containing a significant assemblage of Neolithic pottery; Bronze Age and Iron Age ditches; a roundhouse ring gully, probably also of Bronze Age date; and three Roman period sites with field system ditches, a trackway, small oven-like features and a single inhumation burial. A stone-lined Roman well, which was fully excavated, produced notable assemblages of artefacts, including a pewter jug and three complete vessels; animal bones; and charred plant remains. |
