Abstract: |
In July 2011 Archaeological Solutions (AS) carried out an archaeological evaluation at Spring Close, Church Lane, Sawston, Cambridgeshire (NGR TL 4891 4926). The evaluation was commissioned by Mr Kent, and in advance of the construction of a single replacement dwelling. The evaluation was required by Cambridgeshire County Council, as advisers to the local planning authority, as a condition of planning approval (South Cambs Ref. S/0587/11). The site lies within the historic medieval/post-medieval core of Sawston in the grounds of Sawston Hall, a Grade I listed building (CHER GD1622 and 01267a). The site also lies within a Grade II Registered Park and Garden (CHER 01267b). The potential for the site was the identification of medieval and/or post-medieval activity associated with the village core and grounds of Sawston Hall, as well as evidence of earlier (prehistoric, Roman and Saxon) activity which has been recorded in the vicinity of Sawston hall. In the event no archaeological features or finds were present. |
