Abstract: |
May and June 2006. Oxford Archaeology carried out a field evaluation on sites 43, 44, 45 and 46 of the West Coast Main Line upgrade project. The evaluation consisted of 21 trenches and revealed a single undated re-cut ditch, which ran roughly parallel to the northern side of the railway. Two separate undated and unrelated ditches to the south of the railway were also revealed. The southern field, site 43, appears to have been previously stripped of topsoil before a dark silty soil was deposited. This deposit post-dates the insertion of a series of land drains and may be associated with the construction of the current railway |
