Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by the University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) on the 24th of February 2009 in advance of a new sports facility within the grounds of The Long Field High School, Melton Mowbray. The new development, covering an area of approximately 0.15ha, lies in the south east corner of the school site which is currently undergoing a programme of refurbishment and expansion. The school lies within an area of moderate to high potential for undisturbed archaeological features and deposits from all periods. The footprint of a sports hall was stripped during this watching brief revealing areas of undisturbed natural substratum beneath landscaped, and sterile, subsoil and topsoil. No archaeological deposits or features were present within the development area.
