Abstract: |
Folllowing a field evaluation, two trenches were hand-dug on the lilne of footings for a replacement extension to an 18th-century building. The site is within the area of a medieval castle earthwork. Upper levels in the excavations contained post-medieval and later pottery and other domestic refuse. The lower levels contained demolition debris from a stone-walled and stone-roofed building of uncertain date, together with medieval pottery and glazed roof tile of similar 13th-14th century date. There were no intact structural deposits. |
