Abstract: |
A trial trench evaluation of an agricultural field to the west of the existing quarry took place between 06/09/11 and 08/09/11. The evaluation was needed as the quarry was due to expand into this area. Previous work had taken place nearby. 18 trenches were dug, covering 1050 square metres, 5% of the total area. The trenches were placed across the whole area to give a wide sample across the field. The trenches were dug to varying depths, reaching a maximum of 1.2m deep within sondages in several trenches. Three layers of natural geology were noted in some trenches. No archaeological features were present. |
