Abstract: |
The investigation revealed remains indicating that the area was under cultivation until the latter part of the post-medieval period, when Bedford expanded. The site had been subdivided by a series of limestone walls, most of which were removed as the site was developed, probably in the 19th century. The substantial pits to the west of the main range of buildings contained construction debris and the later make-up deposits would appear to relate to the development of the site when buildings were present. |
