Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out by John Moore Heritage Services during groundworks for a 2/3 storey building to provide residential and community facility for homeless with parking at rear. The investigation revealed three phase of medieval activity dating from the late 11th century through to 14th century. The earliest phase comprised an enclosure and several pits, the second phase the corner of a building probably associated with the Templar preceptory and the third phase a field or paddock dating to after the establishment of the new preceptory in Sandford. No evidence of activity was found thereafter until the late post-medieval period. |
