Abstract: |
The Museum of London Archaeology Service was commissioned by the London Development Agency to analyse and record a standing building and two war memorials at Eton Manor Sports Ground, London E15. The structures were to be demolished in order to redevelop the site, and the archaeological investigation and a subsequent report were required as a condition of planning consent for the redevelopment. The investigation took place in May 2006. The structures examined consisted of two Second World War memorials, set within the sandstone boundary wall of the site, and a 20th century cottage, located in the northernmost corner of the site. The construction style and form of the brick built cottage suggests that the building dates to the early part of the last century, however cartographic evidence indicates it cannot have been built until at least the late 1960s. The cottage is derelict and appears to have been uninhabited for some time. |
