Abstract: |
A heritage impact statement was requested by the client prior to the submission of a planning application for the conversion of the front half of the former hotel (east side) to residential and retail, and the proposed demolition of the rear (west side) to be replaced by new build housing. The Kildare was constructed in 1887 by Edwin Banks of Highmoor, originally as a Conservative Club but it was never used as such. After a spell as a residence it became a hotel, and was one of the properties of the State Management Scheme until it was sold in 1972/73. Internally, the building has been altered over time, although some original architectural features still survive. |
