Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken at Carshalton High School for Girls in Carshalton, Sutton. The project involved the monitoring of foundations for four structures with connecting service trenches, soakaways and a pathway to the west of the school and the foundation transect for a new Science and Technology building to the east of the school. On the western side of the school the watching brief identified natural sand and gravel sealed by post-medieval sub-soil which had been truncated by modern deposits and overlain with modern topsoil. Within the foundation transect to the east of the school natural sand and gravels were found to be sealed by a thick layer of modern made ground and overlain with tarmac. No significant archaeological deposits were encountered on the site. |
