Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation to the rear of 1-27 Peckham High Street, Southwark was part of the London Borough of Southwarks Archaeology and Education programme designed to give local schools the opportunity to get involved with an archaeological project and to promote and develop interest and understanding of archaeology and the historic environment. The evaluation revealed evidence of agricultural or horticultural land use from the late medieval period through to the 19th century. The brick walls of a mid 19th century building were recorded as were a terrace of late 19th century buildings. The base of an Anderson Shelter, reflecting World War II civil defences was also found in the back garden of a late 19th century house. |
