Abstract:		 Desk-based assesment in advance of a proposed development on the east side of Hudson Dock (South Dock), Sunderland. The study area extends for 500m beyond the site and identified some 50 monuments, listed buildings and find spots, mostly relating to the use of the area as a dock after 1850. The assessment includes an archaeological and historical study of Sunderland, its port and shipbuilding on the Wear.
