Abstract: |
A uniquely decorated and inscribed stone cross of probable 11th century date, located in the forecourt of the former Wharncliffe Arms Hotel in Tintagel, was restored in February 2006. The cross, which had been loose on its base for many years, was lifted for safe storage during building works at the former hotel and although it was then temporarily repositioned, this provided the opportunity to have the cross safely and securely re-set. The restoration involved re-pinning the cross to its base in a more secure fashion than previously, in almost the same position as previously. |
