Abstract: |
South West Archaeology Ltd undertook a desk-based appraisal and archaeological evaluation ahead of the proposed development of land adjacent to Brannams Business Park, Roundswell, Barnstaple. The Historic Environment Record (HER) shows the proposed development site to be occupied by a circular cropmark (HER ref: 4484) some 55m in diameter with a possible entrance and associated outworks on the south-east side. In the event, no traces of this cropmark were identified and no archaeological features were encountered in the evaluation. It seems most likely that the cropmark is probably a drying mark on the original negative. A small assemblage of late medieval and post-medieval ceramics were recovered, primarily from the eastern part of the site. |
