Abstract: |
In October 2008 Archaeological Research Services Ltd undertook an archaeological excavation on behalf of RPS Planning and Development and LidI UK GmbH. This work was carried out in advance of construction work on the site at Vivis Lane, Pickering. The principal discovery of the site is associated with the alluvial deposits in the north-east corner. Within the upper layer small finds of medieval pottery were found, whilst excavation beneath the alluvial spread revealed five post holes. These features were the earliest archaeological deposits on site and a radiocarbon date of cal. AD 1010-1160 at 95.4% confidence was obtained on charred hazel from one of the postholes. |
