Abstract:
Excavations at the Olympic Park on the site designated PDZ 1.12 have revealed several phases of archaeological activity that spans the periods from the later Middle Late Bronze Age through to the Roman period and beyond. Stratigraphic relationships were generally good, at least for the larger archaeological features . The site was located on a low gravel terrace that was probably dry land during much of the sites history. Evidence from previous mapping exercises suggests that this gravel terrace extends eastwards, away from the River Lea, whilst the eastern extent was probably defined by the course of the original Channelsea River. This may have effectively created a gravel island within the valley, probably one of many associated with the braided river channels of the Lea Valley.
