| Abstract: |
Allen Archaeology Limited was commissioned by Focus Consultants (UK) Limited on behalf of the Diocese of Lincoln to undertake an archaeological scheme of work on land at The Old Palace, Minster Yard in Lincoln, Lincolnshire. The excavation within the basement of The Old Palace's 2010 and the following watching brief in the beginning of 2011 showed that there are significant amount of archaeological interesting deposits and features surviving below The Old Palace. It mainly ties in with previous work on site showing residual traces of second century Roman activity within mid to late Anglo-Saxon contexts. Any later activities are likely to have been truncated away when the Palace was built along with its associated services. The groundworks have had impact on the archaeological recourses within the monitored area. |
