Abstract: |
A watching brief was conducted on site during geotechnical investigations. The watching brief revealed a relatively undisturbed sequence of natural chalk and gravels overlain by alluvial deposits, peat and modern made ground. Prior to the 20th century the site appears to have been marginal ground unaffected by significant human activity. No features or finds of archaeological interest were identified during the course of the watching brief . Following the observation of a substantial amount of peat on site, the archaeological advisor for the LB Bexley has advised that further work in the form of a single geoarchaeological borehole in order to extract a complete sample for assessment. |
