Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring was undertaken during groundworks associated with the construction of a new extension to 15 Budbury Close, Bradford On Avon, Wiltshire (NGR ST82226094). The works were undertaken in September 2011, and comprised the machine excavation of footings trenches. The site lies within the presumed circuit of an Iron Age promontory fort. A sequence of layers was revealed of possible prehistoric, medieval and post-medieval date. A number of structural remains was also identified. These features were found to correspond with buildings shown on the 1841 tithe map and a later building first shown on the 1887 Ordnance Survey map. No medieval or earlier features were identified. |
