Abstract: |
In 1904 the Bradford Corporation established its Disinfecting Station on Canal Road, to designs by its chief architect, F E P Edwards. This public health facility was intended to provide a means of sterilizing the belongings of households affected by disease and infestation, as well as bathing for individuals, although a large proportion of the buildings were concerned with transport to and from the site. Despite the existence of the original plans, and of proposals for alterations in 1935 which were evidently realized, the exact manner in which the site functioned is not well documented. The present record comprises floor plans, photographs, and reproductions of historic plans, and was carried out before the buildings were demolished. |
