Abstract: |
A geophysical (magnetometer) survey covering approximately 5.4 hectares on playing fields at Don Valley School and Performing Arts College, Scawthorpe, was carried out as part of pre-determination evaluation works. Several large areas of magnetic disturbance due to the proximity of school buildings and perimeter fences as well as existing sports infrastructure have been identified. In Area B the disturbance may be due to material left from the demolition of Scawthorpe Grange. Several anomalies of possible archaeological significance have been identified. However, on balance given the current land usage, it is considered more likely that these anomalies are due to modern activity. On the basis of the geophysical survey the site is considered to have a low archaeological potential. |
