Abstract: |
Eight trenches totalling 260m in length were excavated in advance of proposed development of the former nursery area. A number of ditches representing activity of at least two phases were revealed, the first dating to the Late Iron Age - 1st century AD and comprising mostly large field boundaries. During the second phase (mid 1st to mid 2nd century) many of these earlier ditches were re-established, together with a greater density of ditches at the southern end of the site, which contained quantities of local pottery wares, suggesting settlement in close proximity. |
