Abstract: |
The watching brief took place on a series of drain runs to install new storm and foul water drains at St George's Church, Hanworth. A group of six inhumations were recorded in an approximate 5m X 5m area to the north of the church. All were relatively shallow and, where identified, were aligned with their head at the east. These are provisionally identified as a pauper plot, also indicated by the poor quality of the survival of the coffins. Other features identified included four brick burial vaults, two flint and mortar foundations, a crudely built red brick structure and two stone slabs, possibly gravestones. In addition, it is remarkable given the history of the church, that so little building material and disarticulated human remains were observed during the watching brief. |
