Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief of initial groundworks associated with the construction of a new dwelling. Works consisted of stripping topsoil and sub-soil to a maximum depth of 0.70m revealling the natural clay sub-strata. The general sequence of deposits was a follows: 0-0.20m Dark brown friable silt loam topsoil. containing sherds of 19th and 20th century pottery and glassware. 0.20-0.50m Greyish mid brown firm silty clay sub-soil containing sherds of 19th and 20th century pottery and glassware. 0.50m+ Yellowish brown compact silty clay natural, sparsely mottled with compact pale grey clay. No archaeological features or deposits were observed. Finds dating from the 19th and 20th century were discarded on site. |
