Abstract: |
In February 2012 an archaeological desk-based assessment was carried out at the Grade II Listed Lamplighters Inn, Station Road, Shirehampton, Bristol. The earliest structure on the site is a Ferry House possibly dating from the late 17th century. A map dated 1693 shows a building in this location. The property was greatly extended in the mid 18th century, which is when the name 'Lamplighters' originates. Major alterations and extensions were carried out in 1955 and again in 1973. The adjoining gardens (now partly under tarmac) have remained relatively undisturbed for over 200 years. |
