Abstract:
The investigations within the pipeline corridor between Queens Park (Bedford) and just west of Cemetery Road (Kempston Rural) located a range of archaeological features. Not all of these produced finds and therefore their dating and interpretation is heavily dependant on the results of previous investigations on adjacent land, especially those undertaken on behalf of David Wilson Homes. However, they included possible late Neolithic/early Bronze Age pits, middle Bronze Age ditches, early Iron Age pit alignment, middle Iron Age storage pit, late Iron Age/early Roman unurned cremation burial, Romano-British ditches, late Saxon SFBs, early medieval pits and ditches, and post-medieval quarry pits. The pipeline corridor is within or adjacent to the Land west of Bedford and Bedford Western Bypass projects so it is intended that the results will be fully integrated into the larger analysis and publication project.
