Five evaluation trenches excavated in advance of a redevelopment of the site by Ward Homes. All trenches were reduced until natural clay deposits were encountered and levels show a general slope in the natural topography on site from the north west to the south-east. A ploughsoil containing occassional sherds of medieval pottery was encountered in all trenches. A NE/SW orientated ditch truncated the ploughsoil and its lowere fill contained pottery of a mid to late medieval date. The later fill of the ditch contained post-medieval pottery suggesting that the ditch open throughout the medieval period and into the post-medieval period. Two timber posts and a small yellow brick |
