Abstract: |
The remains of a medieval open-field system, surviving as a regular pattern of furrows beneath the subsoil, were identified across most of the site; the furrows shown by the geophysical survey in the north-eastern part of the site had largely been ploughed away, leaving no discernible trace. No other archaeological features were encountered other than a small ditch in the north-east corner, the position of which corresponds with a field boundary shown on a late 19th-century Ordnance Survey map of the area, suggesting that it is an 18th- or 19th-century Enclosure ditch. |
