Abstract: |
Archaeological trial excavations were undertaken by Northamptonshire Archaeology on behalf of Wrightson Associates on land at Hipper Street South, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. A series of Victorian deposits were encountered during the investigation forming a terraced hillside on a steep south-facing slope, with a raised ground level up 2.4m above the floodplain of the River Hipper. The make-up deposits at the base of the slope included the spread of a Victorian rubbish dump of household pottery and glass waste. Other remains included brick walls dating to the 19th and 20th centuries, a flagstone floor and concrete path. |
