Abstract:
Building record of a large 7 bay barn prior to residential conversion. The barn appears to have been built in the late 18th century but also contains more archaic elements, possibly reused from earlier buildings on the site. Originally there were two porches facing out onto the fields, but onyly one remains. A grain silo is located at one end and its continued use explains why the outside is clad in modern boards, the old cart doors gone and general lack of historic features inside, apart from the frame itself which is in good condition. A contemporary though much smaller barn stands on the opposite side of the yard. The other structures are late Victorian and modern replacements for the 18th century planned farm buildings that respect the same courtyard layout.. None of these are to be converted as present, but photos are included with the report. The Listed 16th century farmhouse stands to the north-east of a large moated enclosure.
