Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Compass Archaeology Ltd. on Thames Water mains replacement between the 17th January and the 27th May 2008. The project was considered to have archaeological potential due to the existence of known archaeological sites and finds spots in close proximity to the study area. The monitored groundworks largely comprised open cut trenching; however, pipe bursting and drilling was also carried out within the study area. Despite the known archaeological potential no archaeological finds or features were observed in the monitored areas. Exposed sequences largely consisted of modern road surface make up, over fairly recent made ground and sterile natural deposits (mainly Terrace Gravels and Thanet Sand). |
