Abstract: |
Evaluation trenching over a 35ha site comprised 44 trenches and 23 test pits. One small area of the site revealed prehsitoric deposits, probably Bronze Age. A small number of stray finds included a Palaeolithic hand axe, prehistoric pottery and struck flints, and just a single sherd of medieval pottery. the test pits (designed to reveal Palaeolithic finds or deposits) did not locate any deposits likely to be conducive to the survivial of in situ remains. Few of the anomalies revealed by a previous geophysical survey on the site could be identified in the trenches. |
