Abstract: |
An historic building survey was carried out by AC archaeology between October 2012 and May 2013 at Pendennis Shipyard, Falmouth Docks, Falmouth, Cornwall. The work was undertaken in advance of the demolition of three historic buildings, and redevelopment that would obscure the wharf wall, and its relationship with the Eastern Breakwater. The wharf wall and two of the buildings date from the 1860s development of Falmouth Docks and are of historical significance. In particular, the largest building was identified as the original passenger terminal built in 1864. Within these and a third building later phases were identified, mainly dating from the period around the First and Second World Wars. |
