Abstract: |
Headland Archaeology conducted an archaeological evaluation by trial trenching at Land Parcel 21, near Kirkliston NGR: NT 11983 74026. The aim of the work was to determine the presence or absence of archaeological features and to record the nature, character and extent of any features encountered. The work was commissioned by Transport Scotland, managed by Jacobs Arup and undertaken in advance of the proposed Forth Replacement Crossing (FRC). Five trenches totalling 304m² were excavated across the field, which had been recently ploughed. No archaeological features were found within the area evaluated. The field drains still in use demonstrate that the field requires drainage in order to be productive as it would otherwise be subject to flooding more frequently. This would have made the area of limited use in the past in terms of settlement or agriculture. |
