Abstract:
Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken during improvements to the Stoke Canon Flood Defence Scheme. A post-medieval section of the Stoke Canon Bridge was recorded, and monitored during subsequent removal. The groundworks associated with the insertion of flood banks and walls were monitored on the east and west sides of Stoke Canon village. Several linear ditches were identified and are considered to be associated with various phases of drainage or cultivation and are likely to range in date from the prehistoric to post-medieval periods.
