Abstract:		 In August 2008, Archaeological Solutions Ltd carried out an archaeological trial trench evaluation prior to the proposed development of one structure incorporating 12 new boarding kennels. A ditch (F1006) was present in the 10m trench. It appeared to be the boundary ditch recorded on cartographic sources (dating from the 1839 Tithe Map). It was still on the 1999 Ordnance Survey Map and was backfilled some time after this, as confirmed by the date of the finds. It is possible to conjecture from historic mapping that there was a moat here. The ditch is too small to be part of it, but it could follow a boundary established on the line of an earlier feature; possibly the infilled eastern arm of a moat.
