Abstract: |
John Moore Heritage Services conducted an archaeological evaluation of the area between 1st and 31st October 2008. Ninety-six trenches, totalling approximately 2800 metres in length, were excavated to reveal the underlying natural geology. Underlying 18th century land divisions was the remnant of a Bronze Age landscape. It would seem likely that remains of field systems with associated structures and at least one possible enclosure are present on the slopes overlooking the plain, which itself has remains of ritual activity in the form of an enclosed area of pits and postholes. Associated pottery dates to the later part of the Early Bronze Age to the Middle Bronze Age. A lithic scatter is present within the topsoil across the whole area. |
